It does not matter your age, whether you are 18 or 80, God can call you to do His work at His right time and He will qualify and strengthen you for that mission. In 2 Kings 24: 8 – Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem for three months. In Exodus 7: 7 – Moses was eighty years old when he spoke to Pharaoh. God gave both Jehoiachin and Moses key leadership positions at different stages of their lives.
When you turn 18 you become excited that you’ve reached that stage in life whereby you can make your own decisions. You can apply for a license and identify yourself as an adult. You feel older, wiser, and can take on huge responsibilities because you have the ability to do so. You feel having lots of energy and freshness to accomplish anything. At that age, it’s always advisable to make better choices. Unfortunately, Jehoiachin; did what was evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done. His evil acts costed his kingship and he only reigned for a short period of time for only three months.
When you turn 80, many will consider you as a wise person and with lots of life experiences to share with others. People can look up on you for advice. I find it fascinating the way God sent Moses to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt when he was an old man at 80 considering the heavy tasks that were before him. God knew how the Israelites would rebel and be in the wilderness for forty years. He knew how Moses would need to spend time with Him in prayer at the mountain. But, God qualified Moses to demonstrate all He wanted him to do. Being over 80, Moses had learnt to listen to the voice of God and to obey Him.
Whether you are 18 or 80, it is not how old you look on the outside, but it is who you think you are and how you feel on the inside. Attitude makes all the difference. Life expectations, whether you are young or old makes us to put limitations on ourselves. However, the Lord encourages us in His Word that He will strengthen us no matter how challenging the task is. If you are 18 or older, 80 or younger, there is so much in the world that we can do and by God’s grace He Has promised to see us through in all our endeavours.
