This is to wish all fathers and aspiring fathers a Happy Father’s Day. Today I remember my daddy whom we recently had his memorial service last month on May 18th. I dearly miss him! Daddy, I know your soul is resting in eternal peace and one day will come when we shall meet again in glory. My dad was an active community leader, church elder and above all he was a very dear loving father and very supportive. The many things he has done personally for me and everyone in the family cannot be counted. I always find it difficult not to think about him because I think about him every single day. But, I always thank God for the peace he gives us and he has promised us; the peace that surpasses all understanding. He gives a peace of heart and a peace of mind. He’s a God who gives us comfort and especially after the loss of loved ones.
As I reflect about my earthly father and what he was to me, I am reminded of my heavenly father. I am delighted to know that he is always there for me. He will never leave me nor forsake me. He is always there for me no matter what. What really encourages me is that my heavenly father’s arms never get tired of holding me. Even the moments I drift away from his presence he always welcomes me back to himself.
The words of Tommy Walker in his song, “He Knows My Name,” are really encouraging me today to know that God is my maker, he formed my heart, before even time began and my life is in his hands. He is my father, he calls me his own and he will never leave me no matter where I go. He knows my name, he knows my every thought, he sees each tear that falls and he hears me when I call. These song lyrics of Tommy Walker are really encouraging especially during today’s Father’s Day. There are many who have fathers and are celebrating today’s day with their daddy’s yet as many wrote to me after I lost my dad, there are many others who grew up without an earthly father. There are many who never experienced the love of a dad as I did. Yet there are others their daddy has been absent from home. There are many who still go through that loss in pain. I want to encourage each one of us that we have a heavenly father who loves us dearly.
Jesus, in Luke 11: 1-13 teaches us the Lord’s Prayer and he starts of by saying “Our Father in heaven hallowed be your name”. This is to teach us to honour our heavenly father. Our heavenly father is not going anywhere. He is still there with us and he is there for us. I want to have a close relationship with him. An intimate relationship, I want to seek him with all my heart. I want to love him with all that I have – my mind, my heart, should be focused on him. And I want to offer myself to him. For he is good and his love endures forever.
I recall I needed so much attention from my daddy, I needed his time and I needed him to meet my needs and he always showed love and care at all times. My heavenly father says in Luke 11:9-10. “Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock and the door will be opened unto you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks the door will be opened.” Dear Lord, here I am asking, seeking, knocking …
If my dad was able to give me good things that I asked from him – sometimes he did and other times he didn’t because he did not have. If my dad was able to meet some of my needs, how much more can the Lord provide unto me when I ask him for anything? God has promised in his Word that He shall always be there for me and be there to meet any of my needs.
I wish everybody a blessed and a fulfilling day – Happy Father’s Day! Enjoy it to the fullest!
